Planning Permission

For the installation and use of a wind turbine you will need planning permission.

Planning permission is granted by your local council. As not all councils are willing to grant planning permission, a good start is to call them to ask their policy. If they are unwilling, you should consider whether it is worth pursuing the issue because procedures can take up a lot of time and energy.

Small Wind Turbine Planning Permission Tips

In our experience local councillors are not always aware of the regulations relating to small wind turbines. A request for permission for a turbine might be automatically assumed to be a request for a 100 m high machine. It is therefore good to emphasise that you are proposing a turbine at a height of about 15-20 metres. Providing a picture of the desired turbine might also help.
