Site aspects
It is trivially obvious, but a wind turbine needs wind.
Turbine Positioning
The higher the wind speed and the smoother the air flow, the higher will be the yield of the turbine. There is a trade-off between positioning a turbine away from all buildings to ensure better air flow and positioning it close to the building where the electricity is used so as to minimise cable losses.
Since the prevailing wind is from the South West, this direction should be clear of obstacles. A building to the north of the site will be of less influence and therefore no problem. The picture on the Profit & Costs page explains how obstacles influence the air flow. You can also use this page to check on your wind speed. If the wind speed is below 5 m/s on average, then we would advise you not to use wind energy because of the poor yields.
Air Flow
As the picture shows, especially in the urban environment you face a
disturbed air flow that will have a negative influence on your
performance. Ground turbulence can also be caused by bushes or other
obstacles.
